Bhaskar Banerjee is a solicitor at Bhatt Murphy.

Bhaskar has over eight years of experience in bringing civil claims against the police for false imprisonment, assault, malicious prosecution, misfeasance, discrimination and breaches of the Human Rights Act. He also has expertise in bringing claims against the prison service. He has extensive experience representing bereaved families whose loved ones have died in state custody or following contact with the state.

Prior to joining Bhatt Murphy in 2024, Bhaskar worked on several high-profile cases including the case of Andrew Reynolds v Chief Constable of Kent Police [2024] EWHC 2487 (KB), a case which clarified the law as regards fundamental dishonesty. In that case the High Court overturned a ruling by a county court judge striking out a false imprisonment claim on the basis that the Claimant had been dishonest. The High Court confirmed that the doctrine had never been intended to apply to false imprisonment claims.  He also worked on the case of R (Ginn) v HM Senior Coroner for Inner London [2022] EWHC 28, which clarified the law on the form of directions a Coroner should give to a jury in an Article 2 inquest.

Bhaskar has an interest in protest law, and has represented several protesters in who were arrested while demonstrating for racial justice, environmental justice and Palestine.

Bhaskar is currently working on the Lampard Inquiry, investigating mental health inpatient deaths in Essex between 2000 and 2023.
