Merrigan is a paralegal working on both immigration detention and police law cases. She will also be delivering training on the police complaints procedure to professionals at Southwark Council to improve knowledge and enhance the support they provide to young people.
Prior to pursuing a career in law, Merrigan worked as a primary school teacher, which developed her particular interest in child protection and safeguarding. Merrigan recently completed the Legal Practice Course with a distinction whilst undertaking several voluntary roles during her studies.
These included the role of an Education Advocate for the Community Empowerment Network for families and their children who had been permanently excluded from school. She worked as a Helpline Advocate for Coram Voice helping children and young people to receive their full rights and entitlements from Children Services. Merrigan also undertook extensive work with Southwark Council as a mentor for youth offenders and as an Appropriate Adult at Walworth Police Station supporting vulnerable detainees.
