HM Coroner adjourns inquest into death of Branko Zdravkovic following jury verdict

On 27 November 2018 a jury returned a verdict of suicide in the inquest into the death of immigration detainee Branko Zdravkovic. Unusually HM Coroner has directed more evidence from the Home Office on its failure to comply with procedures to safeguard suicidal detainees.

The inquest heard evidence that there was a practice of not complying with the statutory rules to inform the Home Office of detainees with suicidal intentions. Further evidence will be considered by HM Coroner in accordance with the duty to prevent further deaths.
