Please note that we do not offer ad-hoc work experience or internships outside of our summer placement scheme and the Hackney Schools Inspire! programme. There are no exceptions to this, so we politely ask that you do not send speculative applications to the firm.
About the scheme
We launched our Summer Placement Scheme in 2012 with the aim of offering paid work placements to undergraduate students who cannot afford to undertake unpaid work experience or who are from under-represented groups within our firm and the broader legal profession.
We know from our own experience as recruiters that gaining relevant experience can make a crucial difference to a candidate’s ability to secure a training contract.
Every year we give undergraduate students (of any academic discipline) the opportunity to experience working life at Bhatt Murphy. Placements are paid at London Living Wage rates and we help with accommodation and travel costs for students living outside of central London.
Following feedback from past participants, we have decided to extend our placements from two weeks to four this year. We hope that this will ensure that the successful applicants gain meaningful work experience across our areas of practice and an understanding of the realities of working for a legal aid firm.
In addition to our Summer Placement Scheme, we also work with the Hackney Schools Inspire! programme to offer work placements to secondary school students in our local area.
“I would just like to thank everyone at the firm for welcoming me and being very helpful in every aspect. My time at Bhatt Murphy for this placement was very insightful and I hope to be able to stay in contact in the future.”
“I really enjoyed the range of work that I had access to throughout my time here. Being able to receive tasks from lots of different people means you get a well-rounded experience of all the different work going on”
“Overall, I enjoyed everything given to me, it was a very rewarding learning experience. All the task I completed were new to me, my supervisor always had time to explain me what I did not understand”
“Having a mentor to guide you through the placement was really useful and I felt that the placement was extremely organised from day 1 as I was presented with a full calendar of things I would be doing over the next 2 weeks”
“Overall, I believe that my time at the firm allowed me to gain valuable insight on what the day to day work of a paralegal or trainee would entail”
