The memory of Seni Lewis lives on at the launch of the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards 2019

The Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards 2019 – commissioned by Health Education England on behalf of the NHS – provide a national benchmark for the training of those who are required to provide support and care to the most vulnerable and distressed people in education, health and social care settings. These standards aim to reduce and minimise reliance on restraint or restrictive practices by promoting a positive culture and practice that focuses on prevention, de-escalation and reflective practice within a rights based framework.

Look here for the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards 2019 as launched on 4 February 2019, and here for the foreword to the Standards by Aji and Conrad Lewis, the parents of Seni Lewis who died in 2010 following prolonged restraint by 11 police officers while he was detained as a patient at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. Look here for the RRN statement on the Standards.
