Work Experience

We launched our Summer Placement Scheme in 2012 with the aim of offering paid work placements to undergraduate students who cannot afford to undertake unpaid work experience or who are from under-represented groups within our firm and the broader legal profession.

We know from our experience as recruiters that gaining relevant experience can make a crucial difference to a candidate’s ability to secure a training contract.

Every year we give undergraduate students (of any academic discipline) the opportunity to experience working life at Bhatt Murphy.  Placements are paid at London Living Wage rates and we help with accommodation and travel costs for students living outside of central London.

Summer 2026

We are now accepting applications for Summer 2026.

Each placement will be for two weeks either from 6 July to 17 July or 20 July to 31 July 2026.

The placements are designed to give candidates experience of working in a busy legal aid firm. There will be opportunities to observe and assist our lawyers in their conduct of public and/or private law litigation arising from a policing, prison, inquest and/or immigration detention context. Candidates will gain an insight into the roles of trainee solicitors and paralegals, including attending court and assisting with new enquiries. There may be opportunities to attend client meetings and conferences with barristers.

Please note that applications will only be considered if you have completed the relevant application form and provided a copy of your CV. We regret that due to the volume of applications we expect to receive, we may not be able to contact you if your application has been unsuccessful.

Candidates will be assessed on merit on the basis of the application form and CV submitted.

The closing date for applications is 5.00 pm on Friday 15 May 2026.

Before applying for a place on our scheme, please read the Information for Applicants document saved here.

The application form is available here and the equal opportunities monitoring form can be downloaded here.

Please note that we do not offer ad-hoc work experience or internships outside of our summer placement scheme.  There are no exceptions to this, so we politely ask that you do not send speculative applications to the firm.
