Legal Assistant

We have a great opportunity for someone with previous work experience in a law firm in either an administrative or paralegal role to join our team of experienced legal assistants.  The post is available from January 2026 and will be based full time in our office in Dalston, East London.

The role

This will be a busy and varied role, supporting a team of lawyers with day to day administrative tasks, with scope to undertake some legal work.  There are good opportunities to progress within the firm either by continuing in a support role or in a legal role, depending on the ambitions of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising with clients, counsel, experts and other external contacts
  • File management, including opening and closing case files, recording key information and adding and updating contacts
  • Assisting with case related financial tasks
  • Preparing documents and correspondence, including occasional use of dictation software for transcription
  • Document management, including e-filing and preparation of e-bundles
  • Diary management, including diarising key dates and scheduling appointments
  • Providing cover for absent colleagues
  • Attending meetings and taking notes
  • Making applications to the Legal Aid Agency
  • Legal research
  • Working collaboratively with the wider support team to ensure the smooth operation of the firm.

About you

We are looking for someone with some previous experience of working in a law firm in a support role. You will need to be an empathetic and confident communicator as you will be speaking to people from a diverse range of backgrounds. You will have excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce written work of a good standard. You must have strong IT skills and an aptitude for learning new IT packages. You will need plenty of initiative and enthusiasm and you will be adept at spotting and solving problems.  Most importantly, you will be interested in our work and share our values.

The starting salary for this post is £28,000 + 5% pension contribution.  We offer up to 29 days of paid annual leave plus all public holidays.
