Bhatt Murphy client challenges discriminatory immigration ‘spot checked’

A client of Bhatt Murphy has given an interview to Channel 4 News about her experience of an unlawful ‘spot-check’ by police and immigration officers. The Home Office recently paid damages to settle her discrimination claim. The claim against the Metropolitan Police is ongoing. Sophie Naftalin of Bhatt Murphy acts for the claimant.

Sophie Naftalin said: “Interrogating ordinary Londoners about their immigration status on the basis of their racial origin or accent is discriminatory. This case shows that victims of Home Office immigration spot-checks can take successful legal action to enforce their rights.”

Further details of the case can be found here.
