Following their 14 month long investigation into the case of Child X, the IOPC dismissed concerns raised by Child X’s mother that the officers’ actions were influenced by his race. The IOPC say they have relied upon there being “no evidence of overt comments…or evidence of a perception of discrimination”.
Child X, who was aged 13 at the time, was apprehended by armed police officers who drove into him, pointed their weapons at them and then arrested him, after he had been seen playing with a water pistol with his younger sister in Hackney in July 2023.
Catriona McGregor of Bhatt Murphy acts for Child X and his family.
