Police Damages for failure to protect teenage witness

Settlement secured in the sum of £18,500 for the failure by Thames Valley Police to ensure that a 16 year old student was not identified to the defendants in criminal proceedings in which she had provided a witness statement.

A witness statement provided by the Claimant and her mother were disclosed to criminal defendants by the Crown Prosecution Service revealing their names, despite assurances by the police that they would remain anonymous. No steps were taken by the police to prevent this from happening.

Chanel Dolcy of Bhatt Murphy acted for the claimant.
