Seni’s Law receives Royal Assent

The Mental Health (Use of Force) Act 2018 received Royal Assent in Parliament on 1 November 2018.

Known as ‘Seni’s Law’ – in tribute to Olaseni Lewis who died in 2010 following prolonged restraint by 11 police officers while he was detained as a patient at the Bethlem Royal Hospital – the Act is designed to improve oversight of the use of force against patients in mental health settings.
