Supreme Court to consider stop and search power

The Supreme Court has granted permission to appeal in a case that will consider whether the s.60 CJPOA power to stop and search without reasonable suspicion is ‘in accordance with the law’ for the purposes of Articles 5 and 8.

The power to stop and search under section 60 has been subject to considerable criticism in view of statistics that demonstrate its disproportionate use against Black people, e.g.: http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2012/jun/12/police-stop-and-search-black-people
