Becky acts on public and civil law actions against state bodies and currently represents a large number of young people and children who were detained by the Home Office. Becky acts in a number of cases involving migrant rights and failures by the state including in relation to the right to work for individuals claiming asylum and has recently acted in an inquest into a death in asylum accommodation.
Prior to joining Bhatt Murphy, Becky was the supervising solicitor at Refugee Legal Support where she launched the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative in 2021 supervising lawyers across 14 leading law firms to provide specialist legal advice and representation to Afghans fleeing the Taliban. Becky specialised in complex Article 8 cases for individuals joining family members in the UK and also acted on public law cases for individuals seeking resettlement, where she helped to secure the UK government U-turn on the relocation of Afghan special forces under the ARAP scheme. The project won the ‘Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership’ award at the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards 2022.
Becky is an accredited senior caseworker under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum scheme.
Becky graduated with a first in law at Oxford University in 2015 and trained at Ashurst LLP where she worked in the Tax litigation team. She has worked pro bono with various NGOs and has also volunteered in Greece to provide legal support to individuals seeking asylum and family reunion.
