Emily Hobhouse

Trainee Solicitor
Emily
Emily is a trainee solicitor at Bhatt Murphy.

Prior to joining Bhatt Murphy, Emily was a paralegal for two years in the prison team at Leigh Day, where she represented prisoners or their family members in a range of civil claims. She worked in the team representing the families in the Forbury Gardens inquest, which explored the failings in multi-agency responses to lone-actor terrorism. Emily has developed an interest in representing families in inquest proceedings, especially where the death of family member has occurred in prison, or there are concerns about multi-agency working or medical care.

Emily completed her bachelor degree in International Relations at SOAS, University of London in 2019, and achieved distinctions in both her Graduate Diploma in Law in 2021 and her Legal Practice Course in 2022. While studying, she worked for Citizens Advice Westminster supporting members of the community with benefits, debt and housing matters. She has volunteered at the Legal Resources Centre in South Africa and the Cardinal Hume Centre assisting asylum seekers and undocumented persons. Emily has also interned in the French and European parliaments and contributed articles to the BPP Human Rights Blog.
