Michela joined Bhatt Murphy in 2017 and specialises in civil and public law actions against state authorities for individuals who have been unlawfully detained or mistreated in immigration detention and prison or by the police. She has a particular interest in cases concerning the rights of victims of trafficking and children.

Michela has also developed a specialist practice of criminal appeals against conviction and sentence for young people and vulnerable women.

Michela was part of the team acting for Medical Justice and former detainees in the Brook House Inquiry, investigating the abuse and mistreatment of detainees at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre in 2017. She was also part of the team representing Brighton and Hove City Council in the successful challenge to the Home Office’s routine use of hotels to house unaccompanied asylum-seeking children outside the care system.
