CPS to consider charges for assault on pregnant detainee

Lynnette Wallace, then 7½ months pregnant, was subjected to two assaults whilst in the custody of Nottinghamshire Police in July 2011. In between, she was kept in handcuffs for almost 11 hours. She gave birth prematurely to her baby 48 hours later.

More than four years after these events, a re-investigation by the IPCC has led to a referral to the CPS as to whether any charges should be brought for assault, or for misconduct in public office for false records made of the incident. Four PCs, two custody Sergeants and two duty Inspectors face possible charges.

Carolynn Gallwey acts for Ms Wallace.
