Prison Damages for failure to protect under Article 2

Settlement secured in the sum of £5,600 for the failure by HMP Ranby to take adequate steps to protect a prisoner’s life from real and immediate risk after he was found hanging in his cell.

Prison officers failed to enter the prison cell within a reasonable period of time after failing to elicit a response from an inmate. Once he was discovered hanging in his cell, prison officers did not perform CPR immediately but instead cut him down, locked him in his cell and waited for a more senior officer to arrive.

Chanel Dolcy of Bhatt Murphy acted for the claimant.
