She has a particular specialism in high profile independent investigations arising from serious abuse in custody including women separated from their children. She is instructed in the independent investigation arising from shocking death of a baby at HMP Styal and the Mohammed Sharif investigation into systemic racism at HMP Bristol.
During the C19 pandemic she has been involved in litigation arising from conditions of detention and risks to life in custody resulting in the release of prisoners and immigration detainees.
She has a number of cases working with transgender people who have been mistreated in police and prison custody.
Jane was shortlisted for the Public Lawyer of the Year award at the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year awards 2016. She writes regularly for Legal Action Group on prison law and has published articles on the rights of pregnant women in immigration detention and transgender people in the criminal justice system.
She has presented at the Transgender Europe conference on the rights of transgender people in the UK criminal justice system and speaks at events relating to LGBTQ+ and women’s rights.
