Family of Hubert “Isaac” Brown demand answers after Christina Howell is sentenced for his racist homicide

On Friday 25 April 2025, Christina Howell was sentenced in Bristol Crown Court to a hospital order under the Mental Health Act after she admitted killing 61 year old Hubert “Isaac” Brown on 29 September 2023 in St Paul’s, Bristol.
The family welcome the judge’s recognition that Isaac’s killing was motivated by racism.  They have urgent unanswered questions surrounding the circumstances of Isaac’s death, including the actions of Howell’s mental health nurse and the police immediately before his death. They also wish to explore the extent to which institutional racism within state agencies responsible for monitoring and investigating Howell’s risk to the public played a part in the events leading to Isaac’s death. An NHS independent homicide investigation is underway and the family also hope that the Coroner will resume the inquest into Isaac’s death so that their questions can be properly addressed.

Isaac and his family are represented by Erica San, Sophie Naftalin and Abisola Bishi of Bhatt Murphy Solicitors.
