CXY was still breastfeeding when he was unjustifiably separated from his mother at HMP New Hall for a period of 5 months. His mother MXY bought proceedings against the Ministry of Justice and Action for Children which resulted in substantive damages, a joint apology, acceptance that MXY had been the victim of racist abuse from white prisoners and that the separation was unjustified.
